The natural properties of wool:

Here’s a short list of natural characteristics of your sheep rug/throw

  • Anti-bacterial
  • Hypoallergenic
  • Resilient

General Rules - Your do's

1.) Brush, Brush - Maintain with occasional brushing with a wire or bristle brush to avoid knotting of the sheep rug/throw.

2.) Shake your rug/throw up - Lanolin/wool has natural properties to repel dirt naturally, regular shaking will help to maintain and restore the natural soft product appearance. Occasionally remove the sheep rug/throw and let it hang overnight in the fresh air.

3.) Try to avoid stains - wine and coffee like stains will quickly ruin your throw. If you happen to make a stain, scroll down for stain removal process.

General Rules - Your do not's

1. ) Do not, I repeat do not put your throw in the dryer, this will ruin your sheep throw and will result in a matted look. We only recommend putting your sheep throw in a washer at cool temperature only if it's smaller than three feet but even that could be risky.

2.) When drying do not place in direct sunlight this will only cause the leather to shrivel and color loss.

Stain Removal Process:

  1. To remove stains and give the wool new freshness, spray with water until damp, cover with potato or corn starch and rub in. Leave it to dry.
  2. Vacuum or brush the starch away and then shake off any residues.

If you feel that your sheep rug/throw needs a full immersed clean, follow these steps --->

Note – If you get the hide area really wet, chances are your rug will shrink slightly (the first time you wash it this way)

1.) Prepare your sheep rug/throw by shaking off the dust and dirt before

2. ) Then, fill a tub with cool water and sheepskin detergent. Do not wash in soap or washing detergents containing enzymes or bleach.

3.) Take your sheep rug/throw and slowly immerse it in water and scrub spots out while it is in the water using your hands.

4.) Drain the dirty water and refill the bath with fresh warm water to rinse the last soap and dirt away, you will need to do this several times to ensure that your sheep skin is fully cleaned.

Try the best to drain the rug by gently squeezing the water out with your hands. Do not ring it or you may crack the hide. After this step, you can let the rug to hang to dry. Make sure that it is not in direct sunlight when drying as this can affect the natural color.

5.) Once it's dried a little and feels lighter, take it off from hanging and lay it on top of towels to allow it to dry fully.

6.) My favorite part. The brushing! Take a wired brush (pet brush works too) and lightly brush your sheep rug/throw. This will allow it to become soft and fluffy again.

Tad da! Your sheep throw should be as good as new.
